Three researchers from the Instituto Biofisika ranked among the most prominent female researchers in the CSIC ranking

Alicia Alonso (207), Mónica Carril (3056) and Edurne Rujas (9677) from the Instituto Biofisika, stand out among the 10,000 female researchers featured in the ranking published by the CSIC.

The Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) has released the latest ranking of Spanish female researchers working in Spain and abroad, as well as foreign women conducting research at Spanish universities and research centers. The purpose of this ranking is to increase the visibility of women researchers through a public and free-access platform (Google Scholar), which offers significantly broader coverage than other bibliometric sources, including paid ones.

Additionally, the initiative aims to promote open infrastructures by encouraging the use of personal identifiers like ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) and institutional identifiers like RoR (Research Organization Registry). “Building Open Science requires the intensive use of metadata to enable the interconnection of different sources,” explained Isidro F. Aguillo from IPP-CSIC, the ranking’s editor.

The ranking, developed by a team from the Institute of Public Goods and Policies (IPP-CSIC), features 9,990 female researchers from over 450 national and international organizations.
