Professor Arturo Muga passes away
Instituto Biofisika (IBF), its Director and all members of this institution would like to express their deepest regret at the passing of Professor Arturo Muga Villate, Group Leader of the Protein Folding and Chaperones Laboratory at the IBF.
Arturo Muga was a Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), and a member of the Biofisika Institute. He obtained the PhD degree from the University of the Basque Country and was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the National Research Council (NRCC, Canada). Professor Muga supervised over 13 PhD students in his career. He participated in more than 40 regional, national and international research projects, publishing 100+ papers, some in recognized journals as PNAS, Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, Nucleic Acids Research, Journal of Medicinal Chemistry. His research interest focused on the capacity of the protein machinery known as the human disaggregase to remodel protein aggregates and fibers related to neurodegenerative disorders, and on the functional association of the molecular chaperones that build this macromolecular complex.
Professor Arturo Muga passed away the 10th of April, 2024, at the age of 62. May he rest in peace.
