Interview with Iban Ubarretxena in "El Diario Vasco" newspaper

Iban Ubarretxena, director of the Instituto Biofisika, joint center of the UPV/EHU and CSIC, and scientific director of the Fundación Biofisica Bizkaia (FBB), was interviewed by the newspaper "El Diario Vasco" about the scientific situation in the United States due to the new U.S. government's science policies. He points out that "there is a growing interest among scientists who have built their careers in the United States in the research conditions in the Basque Country, an interest that did not exist before."

Ubarretxena admits that this potential recruitment scenario is not unfamiliar to him, as one of his responsibilities is to attract talent, and he is always on the lookout for future opportunities. Now, with U.S. policies acting as "a torpedo to the scientific waterline," some researchers "are considering emigrating and moving elsewhere."
