CartoCell, an open-source tool capable of detecting hidden patterns in cellular tissues
CartoCell is a 3D image analysis tool that uses artificial intelligence to uncover hidden cellular morphology patterns in epithelial tissues, with applications in both basic science and clinical and medical development.
The tool relies on artificial neural networks, specifically designed to identify and study the shape and spatial distribution of three-dimensional cells in microscopy images. This approach reveals microscopic patterns associated with different types of tissues and cells, facilitating research in areas such as developmental biology.
CartoCell was developed by research groups from the Institute of Biomedicine of Seville (IBiS) and the University of the Basque Country/DIPC/Biofisika Institute as an open-source tool, allowing the rest of the scientific and medical community to freely use, adapt, and improve it. This open science philosophy aims to create an accessible and adaptable tool.
