Jose L Nieva

Since his promotion in 2003, Jose L Nieva has been a Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of the Basque Country (UBC). He has carried out his research work in the areas of Membrane Biochemistry and Biophysics (PhD studies, Science and Technology Faculty, UBC) and Molecular Virology (postdoctoral studies at the Medical College, University of Groningen and “Severo Ochoa” Center for Molecular Biology in Madrid). He is currently the PI of the “Immunobiophysics and antibody engineering Laboratory” group at the Biofisika Institute. The group studies the structure-function relationships of virus-encoded membrane proteins, key players in the cell infection and pathogenesis. His work has been published in prestigious journals (J. Virology, EMBO J, Nature Communications, Nature Reviews Microbiology), and funded by national and international agencies (Spanish Ministries: MEC, MICINN, MINECO, MCIU; Basque Government National Institutes of Health (NIH-USA); Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR); US Department of Agriculture (USDA-ARS)).
