12/02/2019 – Biofisika winner of a €1.2M Horizon Prize of the European Commission

Within the field of «Big Data Technologies«, the first prize of €1.2 million went to Professor José Vilar, Ikerbasque Professor at Biofisika Institute (UPV/EHU, CSIC), who created a software that could predict the likely flow of electricity through a grid taking into account a number of factors including the weather and the generation source (i.e. wind turbines, solar cells, etc).

Horizon Prizes are challenge prizes (also known as ‘inducement’ prizes) which offer a cash reward to whoever can most effectively meet a defined challenge.
