Molecular Mechanisms of Familial Hypercholesterolemia

Molecular Mechanisms of Familial Hypercholesterolemia

The overall interest of our laboratory is focused in two major themes of research: (1) the identification and characterization of mutations occurring at LDL receptor, ApoB-100 and PCSK9, and (2) the correlation between microRNAs and atherosclerosis by the study of several microRNAs that serve as critical regulators of cholesterol homeostasis and lipid metabolism.

The lab takes advantage of biophysical and molecular biology techniques which includes studies in vitro, and in vivo.
